Life is full of unexpected events. You can try to anticipate every scenario for your clients and team. However, you’ll still be caught off guard and expected to lead. Expected to lead through the unknown without a proven and tested roadmap.
Without a roadmap, it is easy for fear and negativity to creep in. Most everyone craves certainty and security and a roadmap provides direction. Lacking direction creates an environment without focus. A lack of focus leads to overthinking and doubt.
To combat fear and negativity, create a new roadmap or plan. As a leader, you don’t need an exhaustive and detailed plan. But you do need a short term plan for the interim. A plan to move you from point A to point B. A short term plan will keep you moving forward and allow you to pivot as you navigate unknown territory.
Similar to driving at night you only need to see the distance lit by your headlights.
- How can you help your clients and team continue driving?
- How can you help them navigate the space immediately in front of them?
You are their headlights. Encourage them by leading the way. Be their light during unexpected events.
